Captain Sea Mart’s Favorite St. Patrick’s Day Treats

We’ve all read Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham book and we’ve already probably experienced our kids turning their noses up at green food. Getting picky eaters to try new things isn’t always enjoyable, but with the following recipes we think we can help make your St. Patrick’s Day a little more fun for the whole family!

Leprechaun Popcorn

1 bag microwave popcorn
½ white chocolate candy melts
1 jar St. Patrick’s Day sprinkles
1 pack of mint M&Ms
Green food coloring

While your popcorn is popping, melt the white chocolate candy melts and add a few drops of green food coloring to turn it to your desired green. Drizzle the chocolate coating over the popcorn, add sprinkles, M&Ms and mix together. Serve in your favorite bowl and feast during a movie.

Lucky Charms Rice Krispies Treats

1/3 C of butter
4 C marshmallows
5 C Rise Krispie cereal
½ tsp. vanilla extract
Green food coloring
¾ C mint M&Ms or Lucky Charms marshmallows

Melt the butter over low heat and add the marshmallows. Stir them until they are well melted then add your vanilla and food coloring. Remove from heat and add the cereal until the mixture is well combined. Add M&Ms or Lucky Charms marshmallows and combine until they are evenly distributed. Allow to cool and harden. Cut with a sharp nice and serve!

St. Patrick’s Day Cookies

Your favorite sugar cookie dough
Green food coloring
Vanilla frosting
St. Patrick’s Day Sprinkles

Add green food coloring to your favorite sugar cookie dough and mix until evenly distributed. Bake according to the package directions and allow them to cool. Top with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. Eat up and enjoy every bite!

For a more traditional alternative, make the frosting green instead of the dough – this recipe works well both ways.

Not feeling the green?

For the adults in your home, we recommend swinging by Watson Point Liquor and trying some beers you don’t traditionally drink. We love stouts and reds this time of year and they can make some great suggestions at the store too. The crew at Watson Point Liquor can also help with beer pairings for your party that all your friends will enjoy.
